I had one of the most productive writing days that I can recall in recent history…and it happened because I’ve begun outlining my chapters before I write them. Such a simple concept, and widely touted, but one I’ve been slow to adopt. And then this. In one day, I wrote over 1,500 words and could have written more if life hadn’t interfered.

My sister has recently finished reviewing/editing my latest nonfiction book, After God: making sense of the world after leaving the faith. I've already written a submission letter, and I'm half way through my final book edit, then I'll be sending it to Shambhala publishers for consideration. I thought some readers might enjoy an excerpt from the book. This piece comes at the end of "What Happened."

Ever since I abandoned the faith five years ago, my sister has been tormenting me to write about the experience, but I've resisted.
