Over the holidays we decided to do a bit of local (relatively speaking) sightseeing, and one of those trips was to the Newport Aquarium (across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio). I had already seen the aquarium when I attended a cousin's wedding a few years back, but my hubby and kids hadn't attended so this was our grand opportunity to see it as a family.

I hadn't been there in years and it was the busy time of season (holiday break) so that may have influenced my impressions, but the aquarium looked, well, run-down since the last time. The glass was cloudier and spotted...and the crowd made it hard to see the fish in some places, but we had a good time and I was able to take a lot of pictures. Too bad many of those pictures didn't turn out. Because it was dark and the fish were swimming, it was hard to get a good shot without using flash, and you can't take flash against plexiglass. I ended up erasing as many picture as I saved, but I guess half isn't bad.

Oh, I've got to tell a story...While standing in line to pay for the tickets, I overheard this 6'4" guy and his 6' foot teenage boys hushing (which, of course, got my attention). Then the man went to the teller and asked for 1 adult and 2 kids. Keep in mind, the aquarium defined kids as 12 years old and younger. The teenage boys (15 and 16, or somewhere around that age), just stared at me in horrified embarrassment. After a minute, one of them said, "I'm not the 12 year old." Heeheee hahahahah. It was funny, but at the same time I felt terrible for the boys and disgusted with the parent for setting such a bad example.

After we left the aquarium, we wandered around the frozen tundra for awhile. What? Oh, well, okay. It wasn't quite a frozen tundra....And I did get some good photos of the area.

Here are a few other photos from our excursion.
