I’m losing track of time. Oh, don’t worry, it’s not any kind of mental deterioration thing (at least, I hope not). It’s just a matter of too many years meshing together. It seems I can’t discern one year from eight. I might tell you I did thus and so two years ago, when in fact, I did it ten years ago.

I just watched the latest Dr. Who. He and his companion met with Vincent Van Gogh to solve a "creature" problem. What most struck me was how they made such a big deal about the man and his paintings. Over and over again, they waxed on about his genius as well as his problem with depression, which ultimately resulted in his suicide.

On Wednesday, after concluding arguments and final instructions from the judge, the jury deliberated over the civil suit (since the trial is concluded I'm allowed to talk about it now). The two substitute jurors went home (though they remained on call in case one of the jurors couldn't finish the deliberations).

Today, Tuesday the 6th, I began serving on jury duty. I’ll be on call for two months—two months that the judge has already said were filled with trials. There were about 54 people put on-call for the next two months, but I was already chosen to serve on the first trial. We’re not given much info or warning about upcoming trials.

It’s too easy to be caught up in wanting. The “if I only had…” mentality that links stuff to our emotions. It’s true that some stuff does have a very important affect on our psychological wellbeing—like having our survival needs met and a loving family and friends—but many of the things we hinge our happiness upon are not vital to our wellbeing at all.
